Many people have added mini-split systems to their homes. If you are wanting to do the same, consider the following points when making your decision.
Benefits
Mini-splits can work just about anywhere. Technicians can install them more easily on perimeter walls, but with the right planning, they can mount them on interior walls, too. You don’t need any type of ductwork to get mini-splits, which is a big reason why they’ve become so popular. If you don’t already have ductwork, you won’t need to undergo a major construction project in order to get a permanent air conditioning system.
Since one mini-split can be used to cool an entire room, you’ll need to get more than one mini-split if you’d like to enjoy the benefits of AC in multiple areas. This can turn out to be a good thing since it gives you more control over the temperature in individual rooms. Also, mini-splits are very efficient. Because they don’t use ducts, there are no opportunities for cool air to leak out of their systems.
Drawbacks
The primary drawback to getting mini-splits is their cost. They’re more expensive than traditional units. While it is possible to use one mini-split unit in a small home, most houses require one mini-split unit per room. If you live in an unusually large home, it may become more cost-effective to get a central AC system.
